Situation

With a large increase in the production of cardboard for reclaim in the Magna Park Distribution Centre, HVAC were contacted to design a solution which would increase not only the capacity of the compactor , but allow production to continue during compacting cycle time.

Maintenance was also a key factor for any new solution and install during a small time slot.

The HVAC Solution

2The solution was to design and build a bespoke steelwork platform which would permit a new stack to be formed. The stack would then provide the additional storage volume required during the compacting process. A new conveyor was located at the top of the platform, with access ladders, which allows cardboard to be fed into the stack during the cycle, therefore allowing the whole cardboard decant process to continue and provide a seamless operation. The cardboard bales were then contained in a new steelwork assembly prior to collection.

Our in-house design and fabrication was supported by our own fitting teams complemented by Projector Lifting Services and design back-up by Hurst Pierce and Malcom structural engineers.
